Then you travel south along the Grand Canal corridor to Yangzhou, whose Slender West Lake unrolls like a painted scroll for four kilometers - a lake garden of the Five-Pavilion Bridge, the White Dagoba and moonlight poets have chased for twelve centuries, plus the famous Four Seasons Rockeries of Ge Garden. The journey ends in Suzhou, where retired scholars squeezed entire universes into half a hectare: the water-centered Humble Administrator's Garden, the space-art Lingering Garden, and the perfect miniature of the Master of the Nets Garden, whose courtyard was recreated at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. Day 1 - Beijing Arrival Arrive at Beijing Capital International Airport. Evening welcome dinner with Peking duck, followed by a stroll around the illuminated Houhai lakeside district - a first taste of imperial-era Beijing. Overnight in Beijing.
Day 2 - Beijing: The Summer Palace, China's Imperial Garden Masterpiece Spend a full day at the Summer Palace (Yiheyuan), the largest and best-preserved imperial garden in China (UNESCO World Heritage, 1998). Walk the 728-meter Long Corridor with its 14,000 painted scenes, climb Longevity Hill for the borrowed panorama of Kunming Lake and the Western Hills, and photograph the Marble Boat and the Seventeen-Arch Bridge with its 544 stone lions. Day 6 - Suzhou: The Humble Administrator's Garden & Pingjiang Road Morning: visit the Humble Administrator's Garden (Zhuozheng Yuan), the largest classical garden in Suzhou - about 5.2 hectares organized around water. Stand at the Lotus Pavilion at the water's center, climb the Mountain-Viewing Tower, and learn how the garden "borrows" the distant silhouette of the North Temple Pagoda. Afternoon: walk Pingjiang Road, the ancient canal street with tea houses, craft shops and canal boats; enjoy a quiet cup of Biluochun green tea by the water. Overnight in Suzhou.
Day 7 - Suzhou: The Lingering Garden, the Lion Grove & a Night Garden Morning: visit the Lingering Garden, the world-famous study in spatial arrangement, and marvel at Guan Yun Feng (Cloud-Capped Peak), a legendary Taihu rock over 6 meters tall, and the nanmu-wood Five-Peak Immortal Hall. Afternoon: explore the Lion Grove, a maze-like rockery said to hide a stone lion in every pose. Evening - the highlight: return to the Master of the Nets Garden for the lantern-lit Night Garden, watching Kunqu opera and pingtan storytelling performed in the pavilions, with tea served by the reflecting pond.
