None at all. Every workshop is designed for beginners - masters teach step by step, in English (with interpretation where needed), and the emphasis is on enjoyment and understanding, not performance. Children, teenagers and seniors all take part with equal success; families often tell us the workshops were the highlight of their whole trip.
Hands-on, always. You write your own calligraphy, cut your own paper, stamp your own seal, shape your own clay piece, and brew and taste your own tea. Where possible you also take your creation home - your calligraphy, paper cut or ceramic becomes a souvenir with a story, made by your own hands in the country where the craft was born.
