City: Xian
The City Wall Square Dancing & Folk Interaction Experience offers a unique cross-cultural opportunity for your overseas delegation, set against the magnificent backdrop of Xi'an's ancient Ming city wall. In the parks and open squares along the foot of the ramparts, local residents gather every morning and evening for group square dancing, folk music, waist drum performances and casual social activities. Unlike formal staged performances, this is spontaneous daily recreation for local people, representing the relaxed, vibrant side of modern Chinese community life.

Under the guidance of our English guide, students can first watch the local folk performances, listen to traditional Shaanxi folk music, and learn about the history of square dance as a popular community activity across China. After observation, the group is invited to join the local residents to learn simple dance steps and hand movements. The friendly local participants are happy to welcome international students and dance together. Students can also watch waist drum shows and take part in simple folk games with local citizens. This activity breaks down language barriers, showing that music and movement are universal forms of communication.
PandaStudyTour organises the whole folk interaction experience. We select safe, suitable public squares under the city wall, arrange bilingual guides, prepare pre-activity cultural briefings for students, and coordinate with local community groups for friendly interaction. We can adjust the activity length and style for different age groups, from younger primary students to university and adult travel groups. This experience can be added into your Xi'an study tour, school exchange or cultural summer camp itinerary. It offers a memorable chance for your students to connect face-to-face with ordinary Chinese people and experience the lively community culture of ancient Chang'an.
