City: Shanghai
e Hongkou Jewish Refugee History Walking Tour is a unique educational experience focusing on an important, lesser-known chapter of Shanghai's modern history. During World War Two, Shanghai opened its doors and accepted thousands of Jewish refugees fleeing persecution in Europe, creating a safe haven in the Tilanqiao area of Hongkou District. This guided walking tour starts at the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum, where historical photos, personal artefacts and documentary films tell the moving stories of refugees who travelled to Shanghai.

The group then walks through the preserved Tilanqiao historic neighbourhood. The English guide explains the social background, how the refugee community lived, built synagogues, schools and small businesses in this crowded district. Students learn about cross-cultural coexistence, humanitarian spirit and Shanghai’s special role during the war. This programme is excellent for social studies, history and human rights education for high school and university student groups.
PandaStudyTour handles all arrangements for this history tour. We book museum tickets, arrange professional English history guides, design safe walking routes through Hongkou historic blocks, and prepare pre-visit background briefings for your group. We can add group discussion activities after the tour. This programme can be integrated into your Shanghai study tour or school exchange itinerary, offering a thoughtful cross-cultural history lesson for overseas student delegations.
