City: Shanghai
Shanghai dim sum is a famous part of Jiangnan food culture, and this hands-on cooking workshop lets overseas visitors learn how to make two most beloved local snacks: xiaolongbao soup dumplings and crispy shengjian pan-fried buns. The programme starts with a short introduction delivered by an English-speaking food guide. Participants learn about the history of Shanghai tea house culture, the origin of dim sum, and the special culinary techniques that make xiaolongbao's thin wrapper and juicy filling.

After the introduction, everyone puts on a chef’s uniform and works at a clean cooking station under the guidance of local professional chefs. Students practice kneading dough, rolling thin wrappers, wrapping the filling carefully to make xiaolongbao, and shaping shengjian buns. The chef demonstrates folding skills and shares tricks to keep the soup inside the dumplings. After cooking, participants taste the dim sum they made themselves, together with jasmine tea.
PandaStudyTour handles all arrangements for this dim sum workshop. We book professional cooking venues, arrange bilingual instructors and local chefs, prepare all fresh ingredients and cooking tools. We can adjust recipes for vegetarian participants and take food allergies into consideration. This food experience can be added into your Shanghai study tour, cultural exchange or Mandarin summer camp. It offers a delicious, interactive way for international groups to explore Jiangnan food traditions and local daily life in Shanghai.
