Upon your arrival at Lanzhou Zhongchuan Airport, PandaStudyTour's dedicated driver will pick you up and take you to your foreign-friendly star hotel for check-in. In the morning, you will visit Zhongshan Bridge, known as the "First Bridge over the Yellow River"—a century-old iron bridge and a must-visit for international tourists. Take a leisurely walk along the Yellow River bank, with our English guide explaining the rich history and culture of the mother river of China. In the afternoon, explore Gansu Provincial Museum, where you will admire the iconic Bronze Galloping Horse (also known as Horse Treading on a Flying Swallow), a national treasure and a favorite among foreign archaeology enthusiasts; the museum also offers official English audio guides for your convenience. You will also visit the Yellow River Mother Sculpture for photos. In the evening, experience the vibrant Zhengning Road Night Market, where you can taste local delicacies such as hand-grabbed mutton and sweet fermented grains, with Western-style meal options available for your comfort. Don't miss the chance to take photos of the Yellow River sunset and the stunning night view of Zhongshan Bridge. Lanzhou has a low altitude, so you don't need to worry about altitude sickness, allowing you to start your journey in a relaxed mood.
Day 2: Lanzhou → Zhangye – Rainbow Danxia Landforms
After breakfast, you will head to Zhangye, with a short stop in Wuwei to rest and enjoy the vast Gobi scenery along the way. In the afternoon, you will visit Zhangye Danxia National Geopark, a world-top geopark listed by CNN as one of the "24 Most Unusual Landscapes in the World" and recommended by National Geographic, making it a top destination for foreign photographers. You will explore all four main viewing platforms in depth, timed to avoid crowds, and marvel at the colorful hills—nature's own palette formed by millions of years of geological evolution. Our English guide will provide popular science explanations about the geopark's formation. In the evening, you will rest in downtown Zhangye and taste authentic northwest Chinese noodles. You can also enjoy an aerial photography experience of the Danxia sunset, capturing the breathtaking colors of the landforms.
Day 3: Zhangye → Jiayuguan → Guazhou – The Great Wall & Gobi Adventure
In the morning, you will visit Jiayuguan Pass, the western end of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known as the "Most Majestic Pass Under Heaven" and praised by Western explorer Aurel Stein as "the most perfect ancient castle in the East". Climb the city wall to enjoy the panoramic view of the Gobi Great Wall, with our English guide telling the stories of ancient border defense. In the afternoon, you will travel through the Hexi Corridor, admiring the boundless desert and windmill landscapes along the way. You will make a stop in Guazhou to taste fresh Hami melons to your heart's content. In the evening, you will head towards Dunhuang and stay in a comfortable accommodation in Guazhou or the outskirts of Dunhuang. You can also experience a short hike on the Gobi Great Wall and enjoy the unique charm of the desert scenery. We will provide on-board snacks and drinking water for the afternoon journey, with multiple stops for rest.
Day 4: Dunhuang – The Pearl of the Silk Road
Spend a full day exploring Dunhuang, the core of the ancient Silk Road. In the morning, visit Mogao Grottoes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the "Art Gallery in the Desert". PandaStudyTour will help you book the Class A tickets in advance, which include two digital movies ("Millennium Mogao" and "Dreamy Buddha Palace") and a visit to 8 physical caves with a professional English guide, allowing you to avoid crowded areas and appreciate the exquisite Buddhist murals and sculptures in depth. Please note that flash photography is strictly prohibited in the caves, and our guide will remind you in advance. In the afternoon, head to Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring, where you can ride camels, hike in the desert, or try sand sliding, and wait for the stunning desert sunset. In the evening, visit Shazhou Night Market, where you can taste local snacks and watch a Dunhuang music and dance performance. At night, you can also enjoy the beautiful desert starry sky—an unforgettable experience. We will arrange your accommodation in a high-end downtown hotel for a comfortable rest.
Day 5: Dunhuang – Departure
In the morning, you have two options: take a simplified tour of Dunhuang's west line (such as West Thousand Buddha Caves or Dunhuang Ancient City) or wander freely in Dunhuang's cultural and creative block to pick up unique souvenirs. In the afternoon, PandaStudyTour's driver will take you to Dunhuang Airport, bringing your wonderful Silk Road journey to a perfect end.
