Following the Yellow River through Linfen and Yuncheng, you witness dramatic river landscapes, time-honoured ancestral temples and preserved rural folk customs. Unlike the northern Shanxi grotto and merchant-town circuit, this tour reveals the roots of early Chinese civilisation along the Yellow River, with quiet villages, local food and intimate encounters with living Shanxi traditions.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive at Taiyuan Airport / Taiyuan High-Speed Station. Meet your guide and driver, then drive south to Linfen. The journey takes roughly 3 hours. Check into hotel in Linfen. Welcome dinner featuring Yellow River basin local dishes. Briefing about tomorrow’s waterfall visit. Overnight Linfen.

Day 2: Morning drive to Hukou Waterfall, the only large waterfall on the Yellow River. Watch the powerful yellow river rushing through the narrow gorge. Your guide explains the geography and cultural importance of the Yellow River as the cradle of Chinese civilisation. Plenty of time for photos and observation. Lunch at a local restaurant close to the waterfall. Return to Linfen in the late afternoon. Overnight Linfen.

Day 3: After breakfast, drive to Guangsheng Temple. This ancient temple complex is split into upper and lower sections. Admire the colourful Feihong Glazed Pagoda, one of the most beautiful ancient pagodas in China. View well-preserved murals and wooden halls. Lunch in a nearby county town. In the afternoon, visit historic ancestral halls that honour early Chinese cultural ancestors. Overnight Linfen.

Day 4: Drive south to Yuncheng. On the way, we stop at well-preserved ancient rural villages with traditional courtyard homes. Walk through the lanes, observe local rural life. In the afternoon, visit a traditional Shanxi vinegar workshop to learn about the centuries-old vinegar-making process and do a tasting. Dinner with local Yuncheng food. Overnight Yuncheng.

Day 5: Morning visit additional heritage sites in Yuncheng, including ancient temples and memorial shrines linked to Chinese legends. After sightseeing, start the drive back to Taiyuan. Drop off at Taiyuan airport or high-speed railway station for your departure.
