Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Urumqi & City Exploration

Your journey with PandaStudyTour begins with a warm welcome at Urumqi Diwopu International Airport or Urumqi Railway Station, where our professional guide will transfer you to your comfortable hotel for check-in. After settling in and resting, you will visit the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Museum in the afternoon—a national first-grade museum housing over 40,000 cultural relics and specimens, including the world-famous ancient mummies and precious artifacts from the Western Regions, offering a fascinating glimpse into Xinjiang's 2,000-year history and ethnic diversity. In the evening, head to the International Bazaar, the largest inland bazaar in Asia, where you can wander through colorful stalls, listen to the melodious Uyghur music, and taste authentic local snacks such as samsa (baked dumplings with meat and onions) and pilaf (rice with meat and vegetables). Note that Xinjiang has a 2-hour time difference from eastern China, so having dinner around 20:00 is completely normal. No driving today, allowing you to adjust to the time difference and start your journey in a relaxed state.

Day 2: Urumqi → Tian Shan Heavenly Lake (About 1.5h Drive)

After a leisurely breakfast, you will depart from Urumqi to Tian Shan Heavenly Lake, a sacred alpine drift lake located on the north side of the Bogda Mountain range, about 45 kilometers east of Urumqi. Upon arrival, you will take a walk around the lake, admiring the crystal-clear blue water, the legendary "Dinghai Shenzhen" (a ancient spruce tree standing by the lake), and the dense pine forests on the western mountains. For those who want a more spectacular view, you can opt to take a cable car to overlook the majestic Bogda Snow Peak, which stands at an altitude of 5,445 meters, creating a breathtaking contrast with the lake below. In the afternoon, you will return to Urumqi, with a total driving time of about 3 hours. This day's trip is easy and not tiring, allowing you to fully enjoy the iconic snow-capped mountain and sacred lake scenery that defines Xinjiang.

Day 3: Urumqi → Turpan (About 2h Drive)

Today, you will head to Turpan, known as the "Fire Continent" of China, with a 2-hour drive from Urumqi. In the morning, visit the Flaming Mountains, a series of sandstone hills made famous by the classic Chinese novel "Journey to the West." The fiery red ridges glow under the scorching sun, creating a stunning and dramatic landscape perfect for photos—you can even experience the extreme heat that makes Turpan one of the hottest places in China. At noon, you will explore Grape Valley, a lush oasis on the western side of the Flaming Mountains, where nearly 100 varieties of grapes are grown, offering a cool retreat from the heat. You will also visit a Uyghur Folk Village, where you can interact with local Uyghur people, learn about their traditional customs, and enjoy their warm hospitality. In the afternoon, discover the Karez Irrigation System, one of the three great ancient projects in China (along with the Great Wall and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal). This ingenious underground water supply network, known as the "Underground Great Wall," has sustained agriculture in Turpan for centuries and is a fascinating display of ancient Chinese engineering wisdom, captivating international tourists. You will stay in Turpan for the night, with a total driving time of 2 hours for the day, allowing you to fully understand the unique "Fire Continent" culture in one day.

Day 4: Turpan → Urumqi (About 2h Drive) & Departure

Start your last day with a visit to either Emin Minaret (Sugong Tower) or Junwangfu (Prince's Mansion). Emin Minaret is an 18th-century Islamic minaret, the tallest of its kind in China, with a unique Afghan-style architecture, standing as a symbol of Turpan's Muslim heritage. Junwangfu, on the other hand, showcases the traditional architecture and culture of the region, offering a glimpse into the life of ancient nobles. After the visit, you will return to Urumqi by car (about 2 hours' drive), and our guide will transfer you to Urumqi Diwopu International Airport or Urumqi Railway Station, marking the end of your wonderful 4-day journey with PandaStudyTour.
