City: Luoyang
Tang Tri-Color (Tang Sancai) glazed pottery is the most iconic Tang Dynasty craft, vividly recording the prosperity of Silk Road trade in ancient Luoyang. This hands-on intangible cultural heritage workshop takes international visitors to Nanshishan Craft Village, the hometown of modern Sancai production, away from crowded tourist zones.

The activity begins with a bilingual lecture: students learn the whole production process from clay preparation, hand-throwing and shaping, biscuit firing, to glazing and secondary kiln firing. The most magical part is the natural glaze transformation: after firing, the orange raw glaze turns into stunning yellow, green and white flowing colours, creating unique patterns on every piece. Each participant gets an independent workstation to shape a camel, horse or Tang figurine, paint custom glazes, and take home their finished fired craft as a cultural souvenir. We also offer simplified designs for younger students and complex sculptures for teenagers and adult travellers.
PandaStudyTour arranges round-trip group transportation, reserves craft studios, arranges national-level intangible cultural heritage masters and bilingual instructors, and prepares all clay, glazes, tools and firing services. This half-day craft activity can be easily combined with Longmen Grottoes sightseeing, giving overseas learners a tangible experience of Tang Dynasty art and Silk Road craftsmanship.
