City: Guilin
Fuli Ancient Town near Yangshuo is well known for its traditional folding fan painting craft, a local intangible cultural heritage passed down for hundreds of years. This art workshop combines ancient town sightseeing with hands-on painting creation for international youth and adult visitors.
First, the group wanders along the ancient stone streets, visiting old fan-making workshops and heritage craft stores. Our bilingual guide tells the history of Fuli fan-making, and explains how painters depict Guilin’s karst mountains and Li River scenery on folding fans. Then we move into a quiet art studio. Under the guidance of local folk painters, students outline Li River peaks, bamboo forests and river boats on blank folding fans with ink and watercolour. Every visitor takes home their hand-painted landscape fan as a unique cultural souvenir.
