Xi'an International Studies University is one of the four earliest‑established foreign‑language institutions in New China. It is the only institution of higher learning in Northwest China boasting a full range of major foreign‑language programmes. As a high‑level university under the administration of Shaanxi Province, it is a member of the Universities Alliance of the New Silk Road, the Chang'an Alliance, the University Alliance for Youth Diplomacy, and the Global Alliance of Universities of Foreign Languages. Approved by the Ministry of Education of the Central People's Government, its predecessor, the Northwest Russian Specialized School, was founded in 1951 by merging the Russian Department of the School of Arts of Lanzhou University, the Russian Section of the Foreign Languages Department of Northwest University, and the Special Russian Training Division. In 1952, the Russian Class of the Party School of the Northwest Bureau of the CPC was incorporated into the Northwest Russian Specialized School, which began to cultivate foreign‑language talents at the undergraduate level for the country. It was renamed Xi'an Institute of Foreign Languages in 1958, and adopted its current name Xi'an International Studies University in 2006. In 2023, it was designated a National Base for the Promotion of Chinese Language and Characters by the Ministry of Education and the State Language Commission. Over its 72‑year development, the university has built distinctive strengths in foreign‑language education and humanities and social‑science research. It has developed a multi‑disciplinary framework covering seven major disciplines: literature, education, economics, management, law, science and art. As a key base for cultivating foreign‑language talents in western China, it plays an irreplaceable role in foreign‑language teaching and research across Northwest China. The university comprises 22 schools and teaching divisions, offering 57 undergraduate majors. It runs 1 post‑doctoral research station, 1 doctoral programme for first‑level disciplines, 16 doctoral programmes for second‑level disciplines, 9 master's programmes for first‑level disciplines, and 10 professional master's degree programmes.
Step1: Arrive at Xi'an International Studies University & Gather
Arrive at campus by coach. Participants assemble, complete check‑in, receive pre‑tour materials, and get a brief introduction to the university's foreign‑language disciplines and international education features.
Step2: Model United Nations Systematic Training
Attend professional MUN orientation led by instructors. Learn the organizational structure of the United Nations, committee functions, complete conference procedures, meeting rules and duties of national delegates. Master basic negotiation tactics and standard formats for UN resolution documents. Participants finish pre‑assignment research for their assigned representative countries, sort out national stances, advantages and challenges, and prepare preliminary position papers.
Step3: Lunch & Ice‑breaking Session
Have campus student lunch. After lunch, join ice‑breaking warm‑up games. Participants do self‑introduction, interact freely, ask questions to the presidium team, get familiar with teammates, eliminate strangeness and get mentally ready for the formal MUN conference.
Step4: Model United Nations Opening Ceremony
Join the official opening session. Listen to opening remarks, confirm delegate country assignments, announce conference topics, and officially launch the simulated UN conference activity.
Step5: Full‑scale Model United Nations Conference (Includes 20‑minute Tea Break)
Experience complete MUN workflow including roll call, topic setting, formal debate, motions and voting. Each student acts as a national delegate to deliver speeches, lobby, seek allies and build interest blocs. During debates, participants practice public expression, weigh interests of different parties and exercise the ability of seeking common ground while reserving differences. A short tea break is arranged in the middle of the conference for informal communication among delegates.
Step6: Draft & Revise Resolution Documents
Work within allied blocs. Follow standard UN official‑document formats to draft resolution proposals targeting the discussed international issues. Screen reference materials, polish wording, revise articles repeatedly and coordinate opinions from multiple delegations to form complete draft resolutions.
Step7: Model United Nations Closing Ceremony
Hold the closing session. Review conference outcomes, vote on draft resolutions, make event summaries, recognize outstanding delegates, and conclude the whole Model United Nations practical activity.
Step8: Assemble & Departure
Wrap‑up the day‑long experience, share personal gains, gather all participants and board the coach for return.
