Destinations: Visit Volga Manor, explore Russian-style churches and old streets
Harbin is known as the "Moscow of the East", shaped profoundly by more than a century of Sino-Russian trade, migration and cultural exchange. This 5-day cross-cultural immersion camp is specially designed for students studying global history, linguistics and cultural anthropology, focusing on Russian heritage preserved in Northeast China. The centerpiece of the program is Volga Manor, a scenic winter estate filled with authentic Russian wooden churches, castles and art studios set on snow-covered wetlands. Students explore how Russian architecture, food, music and folk art took root and blended with local Chinese traditions in Harbin. Activities include matryoshka nesting doll painting, Russian bread baking workshops, folk music appreciation and guided architectural studies of St. Sophia Cathedral and old Harbin streets. Students examine cross-cultural adaptation, migration history and how foreign heritage is preserved and reimagined in modern China. Through museum visits, hands-on creative tasks and cross-cultural discussion sessions, students build critical thinking skills about cultural fusion, immigration and heritage preservation in border regions.
