Destinations: Explore Ice and Snow World, Sun Island snow sculptures
Harbin, globally known as China's Ice City, hosts the world-famous Harbin Ice and Snow Festival each winter, creating an unmatched outdoor classroom for international students passionate about sculpture, design and cross-cultural art. This 7-day art-focused winter camp is built around the core theme of ice and snow creation, blending large-scale ice art appreciation, hands-on ice and snow carving workshops, architectural study of Sino-Russian mixed heritage, and local folk art experiences. Unlike simple sightseeing, this program adopts project-based learning. Students will observe how artists turn frozen water and snow into grand castles and intricate sculptures, learn about material properties of ice under sub-zero temperatures, analyze the design principles of light and ice, and complete their own small ice artwork. Students will also explore the multicultural urban history of Harbin, from Saint Sophia Cathedral and Central Avenue to Chinese Baroque old streets, tracing how Russian culture and Northeast Chinese traditions merged over the past century. With daily art journals, guided discussions and a final student showcase, learners gain deep insight into seasonal public art and cross-cultural urban heritage in one of the world's most spectacular winter landscapes.
