2012 Beijing Summer Camp
Step into the Corridor of History and Culture, and Take in the View of Beijing, Where Past and Present Converge
Children from Hong Kong attended a special camp at Beijing Foreign Studies University to learn Mandarin and gain an understanding of Chinese history and culture. Over the course of just 15 days, the campers explored the ancient capital's past and present splendor, experienced the daily lives of Beijing's residents, and witnessed the cultural developments, improvements in people's livelihoods, and reforms of the new era. The campers visited the Great Wall, the Temple of Heaven, and the Forbidden City to experience ancient Chinese civilization. They also toured sites that symbolize the transition between the old and the new, such as the 798 Art District, as well as brand-new landmark structures like the Olympic Park, the Bird's Nest, and the Water Cube, gaining a multifaceted understanding of Beijing's cultural heritage. In addition, special workshops on traditional Chinese arts and culture were organized, including classes on Peking Opera, Chinese calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, and kite-making. Through these activities, the campers gained insight into the wonders of traditional Chinese culture and cultivated their character.
