City: Beijing
Our Beijing Rabbit God (Tu'er Ye) Painting Workshop introduces your student group to a special folk mascot unique to old Beijing, an important piece of local intangible cultural heritage. Tu'er Ye is a clay figurine with a rabbit's head and human body, originally worshipped during the Mid-Autumn Festival to pray for health and protection, and later became a beloved traditional children's toy. In this workshop, a bilingual folk artist tells students the ancient legends of Tu'er Ye, explaining its history and the symbolic meaning of the colourful armour and decorations on the figurine.
Every student receives an unpainted clay Tu'er Ye model and a set of paints and brushes. Following the master's demonstration, students colour their figurines freely. They can follow classic traditional colour schemes or use their own creative ideas. Once finished, students take home their hand-painted Tu'er Ye as a one-of-a-kind Beijing souvenir, far more meaningful than mass-produced tourist gifts.
PandaStudyTour handles all workshop logistics, including clay figurine kits, paint supplies, professional instructors, venue reservation and group transfers. This Tu'er Ye painting activity can be fully integrated into your China study tour, Beijing school exchange or Mandarin summer camp programme. We can adjust the workshop complexity for different age groups, with simpler colouring tasks for younger primary students and deeper cultural storytelling for high school and university delegations. This charming Beijing-only folk craft experience is a wonderful addition to your cultural travel schedule.
