City: Beijing
Our Chinese Calligraphy & Paper Cutting Workshop offers your student group a deep dive into two iconic forms of Chinese intangible cultural heritage. The workshop takes place in a quiet cultural studio in Beijing, led by a bilingual master craftsman. In the calligraphy session, students learn to hold the writing brush correctly, practise basic brush strokes, and write simple Chinese characters such as "blessing", "peace" and their own Chinese names. The instructor explains the philosophy behind calligraphy, how stroke shapes carry emotion, and the long history of brush writing in China. Each student gets to keep their finished calligraphy work as a unique souvenir.
The second part of the workshop focuses on Chinese paper cutting, a folk art with more than 1,500 years of history. Students work with red Xuan paper and scissors to create symmetrical patterns including flowers, zodiac animals and auspicious symbols. The teacher explains the cultural meaning of different paper-cut designs; red paper stands for joy and good fortune in Chinese traditions. Beginners start with simple folded patterns, while older students can try more intricate designs.
PandaStudyTour arranges all workshop materials, professional instructors, venue access and group transportation for your delegation. This combined art workshop can be customised and embedded into your China study tour, Beijing school exchange or Mandarin summer camp itinerary. We can shorten or extend the session time according to your group’s schedule and age range. This quiet, creative activity is perfect for helping overseas students understand traditional Chinese aesthetics and folk art.
