City: Chengdu
Shu embroidery and Daoming bamboo weaving are two representative intangible cultural heritage crafts of Sichuan, with hundreds of years of history. This combined handicraft workshop invites international students to experience both traditional arts in a quiet cultural studio. Shu embroidery, one of China's four famous traditional embroidery styles, features delicate stitching, vivid patterns of pandas, hibiscus flowers and birds. The bilingual heritage master will introduce the history of Shu embroidery, demonstrate basic stitching techniques, and guide participants to embroider small patterns on fabric. Students can take home their finished embroidery artwork.

The second part of the workshop focuses on Daoming bamboo weaving, a famous craft from the bamboo town near Chengdu. Using thin, flexible bamboo strips harvested locally, visitors learn to weave small baskets, lanterns or coasters. The master explains how bamboo has been used in Sichuan daily life for utensils and decorations for generations. Beginners learn simple weaving patterns, and each participant can finish their own bamboo craft to keep as a unique souvenir.
PandaStudyTour arranges the workshop venue, professional bilingual heritage craftsmen, all embroidery materials and bamboo strips for your group. We can tailor the difficulty level according to the age of participants: simple patterns for younger students, and more complex designs for high school and university groups. This craft workshop can be seamlessly added into your Chengdu study tour, cultural exchange trip or Mandarin summer camp itinerary. It is a calm, creative activity for overseas visitors to appreciate the craftsmanship and aesthetic wisdom of Sichuan folk artisans.
