Luoyang Water Banquet Cooking Workshop – Imperial Tang Food Culture
Luoyang Water Banquet is a famous imperial feast with over 1,300 years of history, the most representative food culture of the ancient capital. All dishes are served in soup broth, just like flowing water, hence the name “Water Banquet”. This hands-on cooking class turns overseas visitors into Tang imperial chefs.

The activity starts with a bilingual food culture lecture: students learn the origin of the Water Banquet, how it evolved from royal palace banquets into folk cuisine, and the traditional cooking techniques of Henan central-plain food. Every group member gets an independent cooking station to make classic signature dishes: peony tofu, sea cucumber soup, and braised lotus root. Local senior chefs demonstrate cutting, simmering and seasoning skills step by step. After cooking, everyone tastes the full feast they prepared together. We provide vegetarian, mild-spice and allergen-free recipes to suit international dietary habits.
PandaStudyTour books professional restaurant kitchens, arranges bilingual culinary instructors and local master chefs, and prepares all fresh ingredients, tableware and cooking tools. This half-day food workshop can be arranged for lunch or dinner, and perfectly complements your Tang Dynasty cultural itinerary, letting overseas students taste the flavours of ancient imperial China.
