Terracotta Army Archaeological DIY Experience

City: Xian

Our Terracotta Army Archaeological DIY Experience transforms a standard sightseeing trip into an immersive history classroom for international student and adult groups. Located near ancient Chang'an, the Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang is one of the world's greatest archaeological discoveries, featuring thousands of life-sized clay soldiers with unique facial features, clothing and hairstyles. During the guided visit, your group will be accompanied by a professional English-speaking archaeology guide, who explains the rise and fall of the Qin Dynasty, the construction techniques of the underground mausoleum, the weaponry of the Qin army, and the long excavation story of the relic site. Students will observe the three main pits, learn why each warrior was individually sculpted, and discuss how the artefacts reflect the social structure of China over 2,200 years ago.

After the site tour, the group moves to a dedicated craft workshop for the hands-on DIY session. Every participant receives clay materials and tools to shape, carve and paint their own miniature terracotta warrior. Local craftsmen demonstrate the ancient clay modelling methods, and students can freely design details of their small figurines. The finished artwork can be taken home as a unique souvenir of their China study tour.

PandaStudyTour handles the full logistics for this archaeological experience. We pre-book entrance tickets, arrange professional bilingual archaeology instructors, reserve workshop space and prepare all clay and painting materials. We can adjust the depth of the historical explanation and workshop duration according to your group's age: simpler introduction for younger students, and in-depth archaeological discussion for high school and university delegations. This activity can be seamlessly integrated into your multi-day Xi'an study tour, school exchange or cultural summer camp itinerary. We can also combine this programme with a visit to the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang, creating a complete one-day Qin history themed educational trip for your overseas group.
