Chinese Martial Arts FAQs

Q1. I've never done martial arts. Can I still join?
+

Yes - most of our guests are absolute beginners. Tai Chi, in particular, is gentle and low-impact, suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Shaolin and Wudang sessions start with basic stances and forms, so you'll learn safely at your own pace. Instructors adjust everything to your ability.

Q2. Where do the classes take place?
+

Wherever suits your itinerary best. Tai Chi can be experienced in a real city park at dawn with local practitioners - a highlight our guests love. Shaolin Kung Fu is available in Dengfeng at the Shaolin area or with masters who trained there, and Wudang sessions can be arranged in the Wudang mountains region or in major cities with Wudang-trained teachers. We'll match the venue to your route.

Q3. How long is a session, and what should I wear?
+

A typical class lasts 1–2 hours. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and flat shoes; for archery, comfortable footwear with a firm grip is best. We provide all equipment - swords, fans, bows and arrows - so you just need to show up ready to move.

Q4. Can this be added to my existing China tour?
+

Absolutely. A Tai Chi park session fits perfectly into any city itinerary — Beijing, Xi'an, Shanghai, Chengdu, Guilin and more. Shaolin Kung Fu pairs naturally with a visit to Dengfeng and the Shaolin Temple, and Wudang martial arts combine with a trip to the Wudang Mountains. Send us your draft route and we'll slot in the right experience.

Q5. Who are the instructors?
+

Our teachers are experienced martial artists with backgrounds in Tai Chi, Shaolin or Wudang traditions. Many have taught international students for years, and classes are conducted in English with bilingual support when needed. You'll learn real technique - plus the philosophy behind each movement - not just a tourist demonstration.
