Traditional Chinese Medicine Experience FAQs

1. Does it hurt? (Especially acupuncture and cupping?)
+
For acupuncture, you may feel a tiny prick or a mild tingling sensation when the needle goes in, but it's not painful like a shot. Most people actually find it very relaxing once the needles are in place. Cupping might feel a bit tight or warm on your skin - like a deep tissue massage. It's unusual at first, but definitely not scary. We always adjust the pressure to your comfort level.
2. Is it safe? Are the needles clean?
+
Absolutely. We only work with licensed, experienced TCM practitioners. All needles are single-use, sterile, and disposable - they come in sealed packages and are thrown away right after use. Cups and tools are thoroughly sanitized. Safety and hygiene are our top priorities.
3. How do you know what’s wrong with me just by feeling my pulse?
+
It sounds like magic, but it's actually a 2,000-year-old diagnostic skill. TCM practitioners don't just count your heart rate - they feel 28 different pulse qualities (like depth, speed, and strength) that relate to your internal organs and energy flow. Combined with looking at your tongue and asking about your daily habits, they get a surprisingly clear picture of your overall health. It's a whole-body checkup without machines!
4. Will I have bruises or red marks after cupping or gua sha?
+

Yes, you might, and that's completely normal! Those red or purple circles (cupping) or streaks (gua sha) are not bruises - they're stagnant blood and "heat" drawn to the surface. They usually fade within 3 to 7 days, and many people actually feel instantly lighter and less sore afterward. Think of them as temporary "battle scars" of healing - and they make a great story to tell back home!

5. I’m not sick. Why should I try TCM?
+

Great question! In TCM, you don't wait until you're sick - it's all about prevention and balance. Even if you feel fine, your energy (Qi) might be slightly blocked due to travel fatigue, jet lag, or stress. One session can help you sleep better, ease tension, boost your energy, and just make you feel more "in tune" with your body. Plus, it's a truly unique cultural experience - way more memorable than just sightseeing!
