How to Get to Rongjiang, Guizhou - A Travel Guide for the Village Super League
Rongjiang County, in Guizhou's remote southeast, is one of China's most talked-about small towns - and it is much easier to reach than its mountain setting suggests. The Rongjiang high-speed rail station sits on the Guiyang–Guangzhou (Guiguang) HSR line, which links it to Guilin, Guiyang, Guangzhou and beyond in a couple of hours. For most international visitors, the best strategy is to fly into a major Chinese gateway city, then take a short domestic flight or high-speed train down to Guizhou.
Below are the most common routes, broken down by the international entry city you are likely to arrive through.
Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN) is southern China's main international airport and the closest major international hub to Rongjiang. For most international visitors, this is the recommended entry city.
High-speed rail direct (recommended). From Guangzhou South Railway Station - about 45 minutes by metro from Baiyun Airport - frequent G-trains run west on the Guiguang line directly to Rongjiang Station in about 2.5–3 hours. No need to fly to Guiyang at all. Total: roughly 4 hours from airport gate to your Rongjiang hotel.
Why this matters: Guangzhou has direct flights from Southeast Asia, Australia, the Middle East and many regional hubs, plus excellent connections from Europe and North America. Combining a Guangzhou arrival with a same-day high-speed train to Rongjiang is usually the fastest and most comfortable route.
Beijing is China's main international gateway, with the widest choice of long-haul flights from Europe and North America. Once you are in Beijing, you have two efficient ways to reach Rongjiang.
Option A - Fly to Guiyang, then high-speed rail (recommended). Take a domestic flight from Beijing Capital (PEK) or Beijing Daxing (PKX) to Guiyang Longdongbao Airport (KWE). Flight time is about 3 hours. From Guiyang airport, a 20-minute taxi or metro takes you to Guiyang North Railway Station, where frequent high-speed trains run to Rongjiang in about 1–1.5 hours. Total door-to-door: roughly 6 hours.
Option B - High-speed rail all the way. Direct G-trains run daily from Beijing West Railway Station to Guiyang North in about 8–9 hours, then connect to Rongjiang. This is scenic but long; we only recommend it for travellers who want the train experience.
Shanghai Pudong (PVG) and Hongqiao (SHA) are major long-haul gateways, especially for North America, Europe and Asia.
Option A - Fly to Guiyang, then high-speed rail (recommended). Direct domestic flights from Shanghai Hongqiao to Guiyang take about 2.5 hours. Transfer at Guiyang North to the Rongjiang train (~1–1.5 hours). Total: about 5–6 hours door to door.
Option B - Fly to Guilin, then high-speed rail. Some visitors prefer to fly Shanghai → Guilin (KWL) - a flight of about 2.5 hours - and then take the Guiguang HSR west to Rongjiang in about 1–1.5 hours. This is a good choice if you also plan to visit the Li River and Yangshuo.
Option C - Direct high-speed rail. G-trains run Shanghai Hongqiao → Guiyang North in about 9–10 hours. Comfortable but long; best for train enthusiasts.
Hong Kong International (HKG) connects to Guangzhou and Guizhou easily.
Via Guangzhou South. Take the high-speed cross-border train from Hong Kong West Kowloon to Guangzhou South (~50 minutes), then connect to the Guangzhou South → Rongjiang train (~2.5–3 hours). Total: about 4–5 hours.
Via Guilin or Guiyang. Some visitors choose a short flight from Hong Kong to Guilin or Guiyang, then the onward HSR to Rongjiang.
Guilin Liangjiang Airport (KWL) is the nearest airport to Rongjiang - about 1.5 hours by high-speed rail.
High-speed rail. From Guilin North or Guilin West Station, frequent trains run west on the Guiguang line to Rongjiang in about 1–1.5 hours. Guilin itself is a spectacular arrival city - karst peaks, the Li River and Yangshuo are perfect pre-tour extensions.
Guiyang Longdongbao Airport (KWE) is the provincial capital's main international gateway.
High-speed rail to Rongjiang. From Guiyang North Station, frequent G-trains run southeast on the Guiguang line to Rongjiang in about 1–1.5 hours. This is the most direct option if you fly into Guizhou itself. Chengdu East or Chongqing West → Guiyang North → Rongjiang. High-speed trains from Chengdu to Guiyang take about 3.5–4 hours, and from Chongqing about 2 hours. Transfer at Guiyang North to the Rongjiang train (~1–1.5 hours). Total: about 5–6 hours. This is a good combination if your China trip also includes Sichuan and the panda base.
