The "Village Super League" (in Chinese, Cun Chao) is a grassroots football tournament that started in Rongjiang County, Guizhou, in 2023. It became a global sensation because the players are not professionals - they are farmers, butchers, drivers, teachers and students from local villages - and the matches are free, open-air community celebrations, not commercial stadium events. For 2028, Rongjiang plans to host the first-ever Village Super League World Cup, with amateur teams from more than 30 countries invited to play. It is football as a village festival, not as a business.
The official 2028 tournament dates have not yet been announced. Based on Cun Chao's traditional summer season (matches typically run from May/June through August), we expect the World Cup to be held between June and August 2028. We are holding this page open for updates - as soon as the official fixture list is published, we will add the match calendar and release guaranteed booking windows. Match entry is free. Cun Chao matches are not ticketed stadium events - anyone can sit on the open-air grandstand. That said, on popular match days the stands fill up fast, so PandaStudyTour secures reserved grandstand seats for our groups, along with stadium food vouchers and a guide.
For the visa, most nationalities need a standard Chinese tourist visa (L visa) to enter mainland China. Guangzhou also offers a 240-hour transit visa-free policy for many passports, which is useful if you are connecting through. Hong Kong has its own visa-free arrangements.
